A fun side project survival knife. The original blade is Navy brand, a 440c Stainless steel from a company that’s obviously trying to benefit from the design appeal of a well known knife manufacturer. I had the original folder to test out in the deserts of Moab, UT. It failed breaking near the hinge during some batoning down a 2.5” dia piece of pine. I used the broken blade and TIG welded it on to some 304 stainless steel and made it a new handle. It has a full tang, storage in the handle for water purification tablets & tinder, a crush pad, and a firesteel. The handle is made of ebony and the belt clip is set up for a horizontal draw from the belt but can also be a traditional vertical draw, or an upside down draw for a back pack shoulder strap.

My first welding project needs flat bar bent into circles. Couldn’t justify a slip roll so I threw my woodworking skills at it. Cut out a circle, wrapped flat bar around it, using drywall screws to keep it positioned. This bend should be good enough so I can tack and bend around my sheet metal circle.
