The porch on my old home was looking really tired and had a lot of rotted timbers, so it was time for some maintenance. Rather than rebuild with timber, I decided to do something a little different and make the frame an rails out of steel. The rails made from 20 x 20 Steel square bar were made to look like they had been forged with all the edges beaten with the hammer. That job took a lot of time and it’s not something that I’m keen to do again in a hurry, though I’m really glad I took the time to do it as it looks better than just straight steel bars (in my opinion). Painted two pack polyurethane for durability. Timber tops; Kwila (Hard Wood). The deck was cleaned, sand and re-sealed in deck treatment (water based). Also I used a new camera for some of the close up shots and video (Cannon 750d DSLR) and the Go Pro for most of the other shots. I hope you enjoy the video and got something out of it, and as always, thanks for watching.
Set in industrial environments, the films show how basic concepts in materials and engineering science are applied to the business of manufacturing. Individual programs describe and illustrate the following processes: forging, sand casting, die and investment casting, rolling, presswork, heat treatment, plastic materials, manufacturing with plastics, microelectronics, engineering design, non-ferrous metals and alloys, capstan and turret lathes, cutting tool materials, welding techniques, and bearing materials.
