I like scroll work, but a lot of it looks very skinny and weak. 3/16th thickness steel is the max thickness most scrolling machines accept. However aluminum is much easier to bend and I made this video to show you just how thick of a piece can be bent. 1/2″ channel with .093″ thick walls was easy to do. With a little more muscel and heat treating the metal to soften it, you can also easily bend 3/4″ square chanel with 1/8″ thick walls.
Personally I think aluminum residential gates are much better than steel gates. They don’t corrode and are much lighter thus saving a lot of weight and making installation cheaper and easier.
