Cutting an Internal Keyway on a Lathe

This is one way to cut an internal keyway with a lathe. This is a good option if you need to make an internal keyway but do not have a broach set. In this video I cut a 3/16 square keyway in an aluminum bushing. I used a 1/2″ internal boring bar with a 3/16 HSS tool bit set up in the QCTP. The carriage was used to move the tool bit in and out of the aluminum bushing until the desired dept was reached.
