Hot Wound Spring for Sub-sea Oil and Gas

This video illustrates the manufacturing steps used to create a large spring for use in the sub-sea oil and gas industry. The steel bar used to make this spring is nearly three inches in diameter. and the completed spring will stand nearly five feet tall and weigh approximately 1,000 lbs. The austinitizing, hot-coiling, and quenching processes are shown. Tight process controls are maintained to ensure that the spring will perform throughout its intended life cycle in one of the world’s most challenging environments.
