Homemade metal-working roller for flat bar, round stock, square stock and some pipe. For making hoops, rings and scroll-work from copper, steel, aluminium, etc. I was surprised how easy this was to make. I did have the old car scissor jack and the scaffolding pipe so all it cost me was the castor wheels. I wish I’d made one years ago!
I made this for the horsedrawn hearse project I’m working on. More on that soon.
I used 1″ wide castor wheels because that was the width of the stock I was using, but the bigger wheels are readily available and much stronger. I really think you could use this design for pipe and flat that’s way bigger than you see in this film. I want to build a bigger one sometime and make my own polytunnel hoops.
Of course, it you’re using long or heavy lengths, you will have to support the ends or it will bend. But the same is true for rollers that work horizontally. And most pipe needs to have concave rollers or it will flatten. I will have to work on those.. : – )
