The iQ300 precision micromachining center incorporates Makino’s latest advancements in machine and spindle technology for minimum incremental movements of 10nm, positioning repeatability of less than 100nm and positioning accuracy under 500nm. Its 45,000 rpm, HSK-E32 spindle includes Makino’s patented core-cooling, under-race and jacket spindle temperature control system, virtually eliminating thermal growth, deflection and vibration for long hours of reliable unattended machining.
In this video, the iQ300 finishes a micro-mold application before changing tools to micro-drill 12 holes of 0.050mm diameter in a 0.5mm thick plate of 303 Stainless steel. Between operations the Makino Hybrid Automatic Tool Length Measurement (HyATLM) system is used to ensure tool length accuracy.
