The plate is a quarter of an inch 1/4″ (6.35mm) thick mild (Welding) steel.
The guns used were a Marlin semi-auto .22 with an 18″ barrel,
an H&K USP Tactical .45 with a 5.1″ barrel,
a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun with a 20″ barrel,
and an AR-15 5.56mm with a 20″ barrel and a 1-8 twist rate.
The cartridges used were a 36 grain copper plated HP .22 LR at about 1,250 FPS,
a 230 grain FMJ .45 Auto at about 840 FPS,
a 230 grain FMJ .45 Super at about 1,100 FPS,
a 1 ounce or 437.5 grain 12 gauge rifled slug at about 1,580 FPS,
and two 55 grain FMJs 5.56mm at about 3,300 FPS.
If you watch carefully when I shoot the plate with the slug from the shotgun, you can see the big chunk of lead bounce off of the plate and fall in front of it right after the shot!
The water jugs were to try and catch the bullet or some fragments of a bullet, there wasn’t much of a bullet recovered from the AR shots but they did show how much energy was carried through the steel plate and looked cool exploding! Check it out!
