In this second part of the cutter finish – versus – heat treated 4140 CrMo Steel, I take a look at the effects of a deeper depth of cut with my negative rake and positive rake cutters. This video was motivated by comment by the Veteran Bicycle Co. I recommend you check them out. They have my thanks.
This is a video where I look at the effect on lathe cutting 4140 steel in its annealed, heat treated, and tempered states. I use a ceramic kiln, but similar effects can be done with a torch and a ceramic blanket. You can see just how hard it is to cut 4140 cleanly in my video on the Safety Drawbar. I finally had to resort to sandpaper to get a decent finish.
Please Note: I am a beginning machinist and I do not pretend to know everything. Please always operate machinery in a safe manner and if you don’t know, find a reliable source. DO NOT COPY ME. I make a lot of mistakes. I provide these videos for entertainment only.
